Psychotherapy is a meaningful, collaborative, evidence-informed process that supports individuals in understanding and shifting patterns of thought, emotion, and behaviour that may be affecting their mental or physical health and quality of life. It goes beyond talking. Effective psychotherapy recognizes that our lived experiences, stress, trauma, and pain are held not only in the mind, but in the body as well.
At Ottawa Osteopathy & Sports Therapy, Psychotherapy is offered through a trauma-informed, mind-body lens. Sessions integrate mindfulness, somatic movement practices, and therapeutic yoga to help clients reconnect with their bodies, process difficult experiences, release old patterns and build lasting resilience.
Who can benefit from Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy can support individuals dealing with a wide range of concerns, including:
- Trauma and post-traumatic stress
- Chronic pain and pain reprocessing
- Anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions
- Chronic stress, burnout, and overwhelm
- Body disconnection and somatic dysregulation
- Adjustment to illness, injury, or surgery
- Life transitions such as menopause, cancer recovery, or cardiac rehabilitation
- Grief and loss
- Return-to-work preparation and resilience building
Sessions are 50 minutes and are tailored entirely to the individual. Clients are met with genuine, unhurried attention in a safe and non-judgmental space. Treatment may include mindfulness practices, guided somatic awareness, movement-based strategies, and therapeutic yoga to help restore connection to the body, release restriction and regaina sense of peace. Every session is paced carefully to each person's comfort, physical limitations, and goals.
Psychotherapy at our clinic complements the detailed, hands-on care provided by our osteopathic manual practitioners and physiotherapists, offering a more complete approach to recovery for patients where pain, stress, or emotional well-being are part of the picture.
